Every COJUSD English learner will be prepared for college, career, and civic engagement through meaningful 21st century, high-quality instruction based on ELD standards from early childhood through grade 12 in order to demonstrate mastery of English as a second language.  

COJUSD EL Master Plan: currently being updated

Approximately 5.3 million public school students are English language learners.  We have approximately 38% English language learners in our district in Transitional Kindergarten through 12 Grade.

ELD Standards & Framework

English Language Proficiency Assesments for California

Initial Assessments   -  (Aug 10 - Oct 20 for students enrolled on Aug 10) then Ongoing
New students identified by the Home Language survey who may be EL  - 30 days from enrollment

Summative Assessments  -  Feb 1, 2023-May 31, 2023
All active EL Students need to take the Summative Assessment each year.
