Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) serves as a proactive framework, emphasizing the promotion of positive behavior and the establishment of a nurturing learning environment within schools. At Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, PBIS is foundational to our commitment to fostering a positive school climate and culture.
PBIS employs a three-tiered system of support to effectively address students' behavioral needs. Tier 1 interventions are universal and implemented school-wide to establish clear behavioral expectations and promote positive behavior. These interventions focus on creating a supportive school climate that meets the diverse needs of all students. Tier 2 interventions provide targeted support to students who require additional assistance beyond Tier 1 interventions. These interventions are delivered in small group settings and address specific behavioral challenges or skill deficits that may hinder academic or social success. Tier 3 interventions offer intensive, individualized support to students with significant and persistent behavioral challenges that have not responded to Tier 1 or Tier 2 interventions. These interventions are highly personalized and aim to address the root causes of challenging behavior.
In our dedication to fostering a positive culture and learning environment, we integrate trauma-informed practices, cultural awareness, and principles of equity into all tiers of support. This ensures that we acknowledge and address the diverse needs and experiences of our students and families, providing them with the necessary resources for success. Additionally, we are committed to evolving and adapting to the changing needs of our community and staff. We recognize the importance of flexibility and responsiveness in successful PBIS implementation, and we prioritize a comprehensive approach that values the individual strengths, interests, and challenges of each student.
Our ultimate goal is to create a school environment where every student feels safe, supported, and valued, enabling them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through the teaching, modeling, and practice of positive behavior, we empower our youth and families to reach their full potential and positively contribute to our community. Parents play a vital role in this endeavor by reinforcing positive behaviors, communicating with teachers, modeling positive behavior at home, participating in school activities, and advocating for PBIS within the school district and community. Together, as a collaborative community of parents, educators, and administrators, we can create an environment that nurtures the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.
